Verisimilitude the is appearance of being true or real, which means it has photo-realism effect for games.
Producers focus way too much on graphics because thats what gamers "want". Graphics are not always need to make a great game, for example minecraft, and older 5th gen console games are great but dont have the best graphics needed but are still great. High graphics gaming can put alot of stress on PCs and consoles as the graphics just keep getting more and more powerful for no real reason other than gamers not knowing the difference between the graphics and aesthetics, Which in turn means having to get better gear to play those games. Stylised Aesthetics is what gamers actually want but dont realize it. aesthetics is the "gameplay" of the game, for example the actual story of the game. the highest sold games ever are the lower graphics games like mario and minecraft even though minecraft doesnt have a story. the links to my info http://akinokure.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/video-games-place-in-realistic-vs.html http://www.popmatters.com/column/189333-video-games-and-the-aesthetics-of-the-impossible/ http://nazgamestudies.blogspot.com.au/2015/07/verisimilitude-vs-stylized-aesthetics.html

2D is still a very popular genre as they are a very easy game to play as there is normally only one way to go and it is normally forwards, they are simple games that every age can play without getting confused and have lots of fun with it, the gameplay seems a little bit more fair in the ways you die as it is normally your own fault as you can see more around you. the games are easier to make and can be really fun for a simple game.
But there are disadvantages for example bottomless pits are hard to notice in 2D, The screen can get cluttered really fast and then get confusing to everyone, 2D games have a more limited genre and its not realistic so it might throw some games off because of that aspect. 3D is the more popular genre to the more hardcore players, The advantages of this genre are more realistic in many ways with like graphics, driving, shooting and so on. It has the capability to have more genres connected to it for example fps, tps, racing, rpg, platforming and many more. The background can be the "world" around them that is interactive which mean there is much more to explore. 3D has better graphics that will hook most gamers on the "realistic look". The games are normal longer and has higher quality in them than 2D The disadvantages of 3D games is: games take longer with bigger teams witch costs more, controls are more complicated witch needs tutorials but arnt really offered any more just a picture of a controller pointing at buttons with what they do. 3D games can be a hit and miss with crappy controls and shitting camera work that wont move for you. there is so much more disadvantages that i haven't covered but you get the picture. here's a link if you want to keep reading about it :) http://www.screwattack.com/news/2d-vs-3d-which-better halo has always been a favourite game of mine because of the story and multiplayer aspects of it.
Halo in my perspective is a good game mainly because the multi-player has split-screen capabilities to be able to have fun with family and friends without having to go online unlike Halo 5 which is getting released soon that has no split-screen which will change how the game is played in my perspective, it is alot of fun to play online don't get me wrong but i even still used split-screen there. The weapons used for halo are not OP as they all balance each other out and have disadvantages to using each kind of weapon. So to my point of view halo is a great game that should lose any of the aspects it already has. |
